Governor Jan Brewer Proclaims "POW/MIA Recognition Day"

Statement

Date: Sept. 20, 2013
Location: Phoenix, AZ

In commemoration of National POW/MIA Recognition Day -- held annually on the third Friday of September -- Governor Jan Brewer today issued a proclamation calling upon all Arizonans to pay respect to our nation's Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action.

"Today, we pause to recognize the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces, paying special tribute to the service and sacrifices of our nation's Prisoners of War, those Missing in Action and the families pained by unanswered questions.

"Americans are eternally indebted to the brave heroes who have relinquished their personal freedomand who have answered the call to service, but have not returned. Let us honor them and always remember our men and women in uniform who defend liberty for their fellow citizens. Because no words can fully express our gratitude -- and because we can never repay our service members for their extraordinary courage and devotion to country -- we must ensure their memories are forever honored.

"I ask that my fellow Arizonans please join me in prayer for our nation's Prisoners of War and Missing in Action, and their families, as well as for all who sacrifice in the name of our national and personal safety."
